Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) is a workforce development organization dedicated to preparing, training, and placing women in skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades industries in the New York City metropolitan area. Through comprehensive training, education, and job placement initiatives, NEW has successfully transformed the lives of countless women while advocating for policy changes that support gender diversity in the workplace.
Position Overview
The Managing Director, Operations (MDO) is responsible for leading and developing, when needed, operational activities, including but not limited to facilities management, internal processes and procedures, information technology, and human resources. The MDO brings experience overseeing operations and optimizing systems and processes for greater efficiency. The ideal candidate is a problem solver, capable of aligning operations with the organization’s strategic goals.
The MDO will directly supervise the Operations Manager and Human Resources Manager as well as nurture relationships with vendors and a range of stakeholders. They will also oversee the organization’s facilities, including owned and rented spaces. They will be a key member of the executive team, contributing to both day-to-day operational management and long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities
Operations, Facilities, and IT Management:
- Bridge departmental operations to enhance processes and systems for efficiency.
- Manage relationships with vendors, such as technology support and human resources.
- Oversee the management of the organization’s facilities, including one owned building and one rental space.
- Ensure the effective delivery of information technology services to support the organization’s infrastructure.
Human Resources Oversight:
- Oversee HR, including focusing on recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compensation, and compliance with labor laws and organizational policies.
- Promote diversity and inclusion by ensuring equitable opportunities and fostering a positive, inclusive work environment.
- Responsible for professional development training
Risk and Legal Management:
- Oversee risk management activities, including managing contracts, agreements, and leases.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Executive Leadership:
- Provide strategic leadership on the executive team, aligning operations with organizational goals and long-term planning.
- Anticipate challenges and offer proactive solutions to support organizational resilience.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with staff at all levels and with the Board.
- Provide consistent and inclusive leadership through the implementation of changing systems.

Qualifications and Experience
- Strong operational leadership experience, particularly in administration, IT, and facilities management.
- Ability to optimize and implement systems for operational efficiency.
- Experience managing vendor relationships across multiple functions.
- Strategic mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
- Experience leading system changes with ability to identify potential barriers.
- Capacity to develop and implement sustainable systems, ideally with experience shifting an organization to Salesforce as a data management system.
