Vice-President, Investment Performance / Operations (Investments) / Quebec-Montreal-Toronto / Hybrid
A seasoned team manager in the asset management field, you are a recognized leader with a strong customer focus. You have a keen sense of accountability and are focused on delivering concrete results. You are passionate about the analytical aspects of asset management and would like to work in direct investment support, leading a brand-new team essential to the success of our company’s asset managers: Investment Performance. You will head up the Investment Performance team, responsible for direct, multidisciplinary support for all investment teams (asset manager services). You will also manage the Investment Data Science team. You will be supported by this team’s leader, as well as by the sector partners in charge of direct relationships with your clients. You will report directly to the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer (Investments) and your responsibilities will be as described below.
Your clients will include all the company’s investment teams, the Office of the President, and specialized teams in investment support, Risk, Accounting and Actuarial.
Your responsibilities:
- Strategic responsibilities:
- As a senior leader of the Investment Operations sector, you will support the Managing Director in defining the investment operations strategy, including the data and analytics strategy and the digital strategy for Investments.
- You will define and execute the strategy for delivering Operations services to the investment sectors.
- You will define and execute the strategy for the delivery of analytical services in support of the whole company.
- You will be responsible for the overall delivery of the Operations sector’s services to your clients:
- You will manage close business relationships with all clients in the sector, in particular via your sector partners and thanks to your product-oriented organization.
- Through your team, you will provide streamlined access to quality portfolio management data, be responsible for portfolio and fund performance calculations, take charge of integrating new activities and products, build portfolio analyses and contribute to your clients’ market analyses.
- You will coordinate the involvement of the Operations teams and service centres required to carry out these activities: Business Solutions (IT), Data Management and Governance, Data Science and Visualization.
- You will identify transformations that need to be managed in project mode, initiate these projects when required and be accountable for the deliverables in your sector.
- You will manage the Data Science team serving all internal clients, whose role is to:
- Create, maintain and publish “common core” analytics used by all the company’s business sectors (portfolio or market analysis).
- Create the ad hoc portfolio and market analyses required by the investment strategies of the various front-office teams.
- Contribute to the development of quantitative and AI models for front-office teams.
- As the team’s manager:
- You will ensure a permanent connection between your leaders and your clients’ leadership team, to facilitate alignment and the success of joint initiatives.
- You will be responsible for recruitment, day-to-day management and professional development of your employees, with a strong emphasis on dual financial and digital skills, in line with the company’s culture.
- You will ensure the development of your team’s knowledge of your clients.
- You will ensure cohesion between team members who report directly to you and those assigned to your team on a matrix basis.
- You will be responsible for the activities of your product-oriented units (called “pods”) using an agile approach (daily scrums, backlog management, etc.).
- You will work in fusion mode with the IT service delivery team for Investments.
Desired profile
- Master’s degree in financial engineering, finance, business administration, software engineering, computer science or equivalents
- Major asset: CFA, FRM, CPA or comparable certification
- Asset: doctorate in one of these disciplines
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in investment-related roles and advanced knowledge of investment
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in team management and development roles
- Dual financial and analytical skills, backed by experience and training
- Asset: international experience
- Advanced level of both French and English language proficiency, as the role will involve strategic verbal and written interactions with Toronto-based internal clients within the Investment sector and all across the company and with various unilingual English-speaking third parties in the capital markets environment, primarily CIBC Mellon, all on a regular basis (approximately 30% of the time).
