Handyman/Security Manager Wanted: Live-In Role at Artist Housing DTLA

Artist Housing DTLA is a thriving creative community in the heart of Los Angeles, offering affordable housing for artists and creatives. We are seeking a dependable, skilled Handyman/Security Manager to oversee property maintenance, enforce property rules, and ensure a safe, well-maintained environment.
This role requires someone confident and assertive, capable of maintaining order and managing tenant interactions with professionalism and authority.
Position Overview:
This is a long-term, live-in position ideal for someone with handyman expertise and a strong sense of accountability. You’ll independently manage repairs, enforce property policies, and support a vibrant creative community.
Living locally near Downtown LA is preferred due to the nature of emergencies and limited parking. Public transit is encouraged.
Compensation & Perks:
Base Salary: $1,000/month.
Living Space: A bed in the property (valued at $700/month) included. Private office (Valued at $600/month)
Access to Work Areas: tools, storage, and a large workspace available for personal use.
Flexible Schedule: Work at your convenience—early mornings, late nights, or weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform property repairs and maintenance, including:
Basic electrical and plumbing tasks.
Drywall patching, painting, and carpentry.
Appliance troubleshooting and repair.
Enforce property rules and deny unauthorized access to communal spaces or the property as needed.
Maintain order among tenants with authority and confidence, ensuring adherence to community guidelines.
Respond promptly to emergency issues like leaks or power outages.
Supervise and coordinate with other staff (Resident Assistants, cleaners, etc.).
Manage and organize inventory of tools and supplies.
Haul and move furniture as required.
Communicate with management about project progress and community needs via Trello.
Qualifications:
Proven handyman experience (2+ years preferred).
Strong ability to assertively manage tenant interactions.
Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems.
Skills in drywall repair, painting, and appliance troubleshooting.
Highly organized and self-directed.
Ability to handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
Must live locally or be willing to relocate near Downtown LA.
Prior management or supervisory experience is a plus.
