Under the direction of the joint Trustees, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) – Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) Benefit Plans Office administers negotiated Pension and Welfare Plan benefits for West Coast active and retired longshore workers, their dependents and survivors.
The ILWU-PMA Benefit Plans Office is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager for our San Francisco office. The Assistant Accounting Manager provides support to the Accounting Manager and senior management in the daily operations of the accounting department including an active role in the daily operation of the accounts payable process, accounting operations and financial matters for various benefit plans.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Accounting Manager:
• Manage disbursement operations for Administrative Expenses and Welfare Benefits.
• Assist managing system of internal controls to ensure proper financial accountability, confidentiality and safeguarding of assets.
• Train and develop support staff with emphasis on developing computer techniques and analytical abilities.
• Oversee changes and maintenance of various spreadsheets and reporting.
• Manage semi-monthly payables, which include reviewing, calculating, reconciling, and paying invoices in Oracle and via ACH requests.
• Manage 1099, Use-Tax, Property-Tax, and various gov't reporting.
• Analyze financial reports and assist in budget analysis and reporting.
• Assist with bi-weekly payroll.
• Special projects (e.g., system upgrades, program changes, collaboration within departments and/or business partners to implement new processes)
Qualifications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Minimum 5 years experience in Accounting or related field
• Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
• Previous experience in management or supervisory role
• Working knowledge of Oracle or similar ERP system
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
• Detail oriented, high level of accuracy, excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal staff and external contacts.
• Ability to lift packages, boxes, and materials (weighing up to 25 pounds)
