About the Role:
AngelList is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer to own and evolve AngelList’s compliance function. This role requires a strategic thinker with a meticulous eye for detail and a passion for building scalable compliance frameworks.
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in fostering a culture of compliance and sound risk management by overseeing our regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management programs. You will lead compliance initiatives that support the development of new regulated business lines while safeguarding and enhancing our existing offerings.
You will be instrumental in scaling and managing a best-in-class regulatory compliance program as AngelList deepens its presence in existing markets and explores new product offerings. Your responsibilities will include leading our compliance strategy, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory obligations, managing regulatory reporting, and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory bodies. Additionally, you will oversee our data privacy compliance and risk management initiatives.

You will:- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program aligned with regulatory requirements and AngelList’s business objectives.
- Lead relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring transparent communication and timely reporting.
- Oversee compliance for all regulated activities, including banking, payments, securities, and private fund advisory services (including KYC/AML processes, investor accreditation, data privacy, and advertising compliance).
- Identify and mitigate emerging compliance risks in partnership with internal stakeholders.
- Manage incident response for compliance and privacy-related events.
- Support the launch of new business lines by assessing compliance implications and ensuring regulatory readiness.
You have:- 7–10 years of experience in compliance roles, preferably within fintech, banking, or investment advisory sectors.
- Proven expertise in U.S. payments and banking regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, and state money transmission laws.
- Deep knowledge of compliance requirements for private securities offerings and broker-dealer activities, including SEC and FINRA regulations, as well as state securities laws and Blue Sky filings.
- Thorough understanding of global data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA); cybersecurity compliance frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001; and vendor and third-party compliance risks.
- Strong leadership skills with experience guiding compliance teams and fostering a culture of ethical excellence.
- Exceptional communication skills to liaise with regulatory bodies, internal teams, and external partners.
- A proactive approach to identifying risks and developing innovative solutions.
How Success will be Measured in this Role:- Proficiency in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating compliance risks associated with fintech operations, banking, payments, and securities and investment regulation services.
- Ability to develop, implement, and enforce compliance policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with regulatory bodies, internal teams, and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex regulations and assess their impact on business operations.
- Proven leadership abilities to guide compliance teams and foster a culture of ethical behavior and compliance within the organization.
- Familiarity with compliance-related technologies and tools used in fintech environments.

AngelList has offices in two hub cities: San Francisco and New York City that you can choose to work from. We’re focused on hiring within these hubs and people hired from these hub offices are expected to come into the office twice per week (Tuesdays and choice between Wednesday or Thursday).
