Position:
Sterile resource technician needed for Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon (Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons) with mobile surgical practice.
Prior experience with surgical instrument cleaning and packing (human or veterinary) is required.
We are looking for a long-term employee to join the team, please do not apply if you anticipate being able to commit to less than two years of employment.
Duties:
• Clean, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments (orthopedic, general surgical, and laparoscopic/arthroscopic) via steam autoclave using provided instrument packing guides. Packs are assembled by checklist/instrument packing guides with instrument lists, counts and pictures. There is a zero tolerance policy for missed/incorrect instruments; first time will be a written warning, second time will be suspension or termination.
• Monitor supply levels, add to order board when at predetermined level (ordering and inventory to be performed by others).
• Organize and maintain surgical prep area (organize supplies/instruments, sweep, take trash out, clean counters, unpack and put away supplies, break down boxes, etc).
• Maintain steam autoclaves (weekly and monthly preventative cleaning/maintenance).
Hours/Anticipated Workload:
This is a part-time salaried position requiring approximately six hours per week over one or two days: one six hour day (preferred) on Tuesdays 5:30pm-11:30pm. Possibility exists for occasional three hour days (Tuesday 5:30pm - 8:30pm and Wednesday 5:30pm - 8:30pm). Hours may be flexible, days are not; Tuesdays are required +/- Wednesdays.
Typical six hour shift involves cleaning, lubricating, packing and sterilizing an average of 8-10 instrument sets and can be accomplished in around five hours on average.
Pay/Benefits:
Dependent on experience level. After training/probationary period, salary begins at $15,600/yr (assuming one day per week schedule = average of $50/hr for 52 six hour shifts). Effective hourly rate will likely be much higher as there are usually less than 52 shifts necessary per year and many shifts require less than six hours to complete.
Salaried position: you still get paid on weeks I don't have packs or can wait until the following week. You still get paid when I go on vacation. Fixed pay per shift means if it takes three hours instead of six, your hourly rate of pay effectively doubled.
Benefits include healthcare and 401k plan.
